Zhang Ming


Lien Boon Hua is a conductor celebrated for his artistic versatility and emotional depth, commanding a repertoire that spans contemporary works, symphonic literature, Chinese orchestral music and opera. He currently serves as Associate Conductor of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Conductor of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra, recent appointments that underscore his commitment to championing Asian music on the international stage. Acclaimed as one of Asia’s foremost interpreters of contemporary music, he was invited in 2022 to lead the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in a landmark concert celebrating the 20th anniversary of Esplanade – Singapore’s national performing arts centre. Since founding Wayfarer Sinfonietta in 2021, Lien has established the ensemble as a dynamic force in Singapore, renowned for its artistic excellence and bold programming.

SIMON KONG SU LEONG is a Malaysian composer and conductor of Chinese descent. He was born in Sabah state and his ancestral hometown is Bao'an, Shenzhen, China. He is the first "foreign student" to graduate with outstanding achievements from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music's major in Chinese instrumental composition. He studied under the guidance of the renowned composer Professor Zhu Xiaogu. During his studies, Simon also learned conducting from the distinguished music educator Professor Xia Feiyun, modern music composition from the renowned composer Professor Xu Jianqiang, suona performance from the esteemed suona player Professor Liu Ying, percussion performance from the acclaimed percussionist Professor Yang Ruwen, and Chinese folk song theory from the ethnomusicologist Professor Huang Bai. Jiang's mentor during his formative years was the well-known Malaysian Chinese music educator Teo Seng Chong.

Yu Jia started learning pipa at the age of four and was admitted to the primary school attached to the Central Conservatory of Music at the age of nine. She has participated in many international competitions and won many awards. Graduated in 1997 with a bachelor's degree. In the same year, she joined the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and has been the PIPA principal ever since. In 2018, she entered the China Conservatory of Music to study for a master's degree in Pipa, and received a master's degree in 2021. In the same year, she studied for a master's degree in Zhongruan, and graduated with a master's degree in 2023. SHe is one of the rare double master's degree recipients.
